Transparent Mountains

 Citizens for sustainable mountains

In the spirit of this year’s Beglika Fest – “Co-create Beglika” we will arrange a three-day re-creation of a framework that determines the fate of our mountain resources. We will use the advantage that we will be in the Batak region in order to introduce specific examples of the three main themes.

 

Day 1 (August 22) – 11:00 to 13:30 –  WATER

“Arda, Maritsa, Dospat, Mesta and Struma. What are the threats and opportunities for the rivers of Bulgaria ”

• Brief Introduction of Transparent Mountains – information about the initiative and the online platform: www.prozrachniplanini.org;

• Presentation of topics related to rivers, small hydroelectric power plants and their impact on biodiversity and people; clearing of forests and clearing watercourse, pollution sources and purification of municipal water, designation of new protected river sections: recreation and conservation of economically important areas (including tourism and sport fishing);

• Discussion of your proposals.

 

Day 2 (23 August) – 11:00 to 13:30 – FOREST

“Transparency in the management of forests”

• Brief Introduction of Transparent Mountains – information about the initiative and the online platform: www.prozrachniplanini.org;

• Presentation Topic: Management of forest areas, citizenship rights, and what gives us the Ordinance on forest inventory;

• Discussion of your proposals.

 

Day 3 (24 August) – 11:00 to 13:30 – LAND

“Pirin, Rila and Vitosha: Parks in Southwestern Bulgaria”

• Brief Introduction of Transparent Mountains – information about the initiative and the online platform: www.prozrachniplanini.org;

• Presentation of the themes associated with each park: hiking and sports – summer and winter hikes in the mountains; skiing and snowboarding off the main slopes, construction – chalets and ski equipment, livestock, biodiversity, forestry activities, violations, etc..;

• Discussion of your proposals.

 

Shooting days – Video “Transparent Mountains”

Within three days of the festival, the project team will shoot a video for the mountains with anyone who wishes to join. You will find the script and how you can participate in our booth at Beglika Fest 2014.
